The perimeter of a rectangular field is 82m and its area is 400m^2.find the breadth of the rectangle.

Mention all the steps.

On June 19th, 2008 Structure says:

$ x+y=41 $
$ xy=400 $
$ x^2-41x+400=0 $
$ x^2-16x-25x+400=x(x-16)-25(x-16)=(x-16)(x-25)=0 $
$ x=16\:y=25 $
or
$ x=25\:y=16 $
